The company does clarify within the customer questions and answers that the charger is NOT designed to work with the Tesla Super Charger.

NEMA 14-50

According to several users, the NEMA 14-50 is tied to a 50A circuit breaker, which can support up to 40 AMPs for eclectic vehicle supply equipment.

Much like any other adapter seen, this cannot be used with Tesla Superchargers. If you are interested in this adapter, you can only use it with Tesla Destination Chargers.

Lectron-Tesla to J1772 Adapter

A favorite of many customers who want to keep their Tesla chargers, the Lectron-Tesla to J1772 Adapter is an excellent option for any Rivian owner, especially if they are going on road trips and want to use the Tesla Destination Chargers.

According to the company, this adapter is designed to connect to J1772 supporting plugs so that owners of other electric vehicles can enjoy Tesla charging stations.

This adapter is compatible with the Tesla High Power Wall Connector, Destination Charger, and Mobile Connector. It provides users with 40 AMPs of current and up to 250V maximum voltage.

The company warns that this product should absolutely not be used with any vehicle that draws more than 40 AMPs, as the device will get too hot.

Additionally, the device is said to be able to work with any Tesla Destination charger but will not work with Superchargers.

Is Rivian to Tesla Adapters Safe?

Although charge adapters are safe to use with a Rivian, you should ensure that it uses enough AMPs or that your Rivian car does not use over that. Otherwise, the adapter can become hot and cause damage. 

Additionally, considering the Tesla Supercharger is a Direct Current to Direct Current charger operating at 400V to 800V, there are no adapters safe to use with it.
