Peace of mind for your used EV

UK used EV check

How the Used EV Check works

The most expensive, least visible part of a used electric car is its battery, and it’s the one thing an ordinary history check can’t show you. The Used EV Check makes it visible. Enter a number plate and the car’s current mileage and, in seconds, you’ll see how healthy the battery is and how far the car will really go today.

It needs only a reg and mileage, so you can run it straight from a listing. It’s the independent battery-health & real-range check for used EVs, built to be used before you go and view the car.

Three simple steps

From number plate to full report in seconds

1

Enter your reg & mileage

Just your number plate, no VIN needed. Before you pay a penny we instantly confirm the car is an electric vehicle we hold data for, and pre-fill the mileage from its latest MOT so you only have to check it looks right.

2

Pay £9.99

One secure card payment through Stripe, with no subscription and no account to create. If we can’t produce your battery and range report, you’re refunded in full, automatically.

3

Get your report in seconds

Your EV check is delivered three ways: an instant on-screen report, a downloadable PDF, and a copy by email. The report link is yours to keep, with no login required.

Before you pay

The right numbers, only for an eligible car

Why we ask for mileage

An EV’s range fades with both age and use. Feeding in the real mileage turns a generic “this model when new” figure into an estimate for this specific car, today. We pre-fill it from the latest MOT reading, so you only confirm it’s right.

You only pay for an eligible car

Before checkout we confirm the car is genuinely an electric car we hold data for. Non-EVs are turned away at this gate and electric vans aren’t supported yet, so an ineligible vehicle is never charged.

What you get

What’s in your report

Battery & range reality

Powered by ClearWatt

  • Estimated battery health

A battery bar showing % range retention vs when new, plus a health grade (like A+) where a manufacturer test record exists.

  • Expected range now

The miles this specific car should realistically do today, and how far below its when-new range that is.

  • Range performance

Manufacturer range (WLTP) shown side by side with the estimated real-world range now.

  • Remaining battery warranty

How much manufacturer battery warranty is left, in miles and months, with an Active / Expired badge.

  • Battery & model

Make, model, variant, year, usable and total battery capacity (kWh), and WLTP range when new.

Charging

Powered by EV Database

  • Compatibility & port

AC and DC connector types, port location and maximum charge speeds.

  • Fast-charge (10-80%)

Rapid-charge time and speed, plus Plug & Charge support.

  • Bi-directional (V2L / V2H / V2G)

Whether it can power devices, run your home, or export back to the grid.

Cost, efficiency & spec

Powered by EV Database

  • Running cost

Pence per mile on home off-peak, home standard and public rapid charging.

  • Efficiency & battery

Real efficiency (mi/kWh) plus chemistry, thermal management and warranty terms.

  • Model & availability

Derivative, availability, and whether a newer model now supersedes it.

  • Spec, performance & safety

Power, 0-62, Euro NCAP rating, seats, boot and dimensions.

History & mileage

Provided by the DVSA

  • MOT history

Every test date, pass or fail, and any advisories or defects.

  • Mileage

A mileage chart built from MOT readings, so clocking stands out at a glance.

The battery and MOT sections appear on every report. Charging, running cost, efficiency and spec cards are included where EV Database holds that data for the car. Range and health figures are estimates from aggregated test data, and a battery-health grade is shown only where a manufacturer test record exists. It is not a measured State of Health.

Independent data you can trust

Three trusted sources, one clear report

ClearWatt

DVLA-backed EV battery and range data, the paid core of every report.

EV Database

Charging, running cost, efficiency and full vehicle spec.

DVSA

Official MOT and mileage history, the independent cross-check on the seller’s story.

“Estimated range is based upon aggregated test data and actual vehicle performance may vary. For more information please consult ClearWatt’s Terms and Conditions.”

MOT and mileage history is provided by the DVSA. We never promise a guaranteed range. Every figure is an honest estimate. And if we can’t generate your report, you get an automatic, full refund.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

General

How quickly do I get my report?

It’s generated instantly. Within seconds of payment you’re taken to your report, and a copy also arrives by email and as a downloadable PDF. The link is yours to keep, with no account needed.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There’s no login and no subscription. You get a unique report link to save, bookmark or share.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. Payments are handled by Stripe with bank-level encryption, and we never store your card details.

The Used EV Check

What’s included in the report?

Battery health and real-world range now versus when new, an estimated degradation figure, remaining battery warranty and battery capacity, plus charging, running cost, efficiency, spec and safety, and full MOT and mileage history. The charging, cost and spec cards appear where EV Database holds that data for the car.

Do I need the car’s VIN?

No, just the UK number plate. We look everything up from the registration.

Why do you ask for the mileage?

Because an EV’s range depends on both age and use. Your mileage turns a generic “this model when new” figure into an estimate for this specific car today. We pre-fill it from the latest MOT, so you only confirm it.

Which cars can I check?

Electric cars we hold data for. We confirm the car is eligible before you pay, so you’re never charged for a car we can’t check. Electric vans aren’t supported yet.

Is the battery health a measured State of Health?

No. We show a battery-health grade where a manufacturer test record exists, alongside an estimated range-retention figure, not an OBD-measured State of Health percentage. That would need a physical test with the car plugged in.

Data & accuracy

Where does the data come from?

Battery and range data is powered by ClearWatt; charging, running cost, efficiency and spec by EV Database; and MOT and mileage history by the DVSA.

Are the range figures guaranteed?

No. Every range figure is an estimate based on aggregated test data, and real-world results vary with driving style, weather and terrain.

What if you can’t generate my report?

If the battery and range data isn’t available for your car we don’t produce a report, and you’re refunded in full, automatically.

Is a more detailed check coming?

Yes. A Full EV Check (£29.99) that adds provenance, including service history and HPI-style finance, write-off and stolen checks, is coming soon.
